Past to Present
Founded in 1989, ONYX is a private, non-profit Community Development Corporation (CDC) that provides housing and economic development services to residents in central city Toledo. ONYX is the only African-American operated and controlled CDC in Toledo, and is governed by a diverse board of trustees. Executive Director, Jimmy L. Gaines, Sr. manages daily operations.

Mission Statement
To be a proactive resident-driven non-profit community development corporation designed to provide quality and affordable housing structures; to revitalize the commercial and industrial entities as well as forming partnership with other stakeholders to provide resources and support for social, educational and economic improvement.

Vision Statement
Our vision is to improve the quality of life in our community through the process of neighborhood-based change. Specifically, we aim to accomplish this through the education of community residents in the importance of taking unified action around common issues concerning the neighborhood: the creation of affordable housing opportunities, the preservation and the rehabilitation of homes for existing and new residents, and efforts to rebuild and stabilize the economic base of the neighborhood.
